I'm a Mac user. I'm by no means a tech savvy person but I can manage pretty well. Thanks to the reviews here, I knew I had to do something to make sure the disk worked properly on my Mac. If you're so inclined, you can simply connect the drive to your Mac, find the Mac folder in it, follow the instructions, and install the little application that comes with the disk.

One of the reviewers mentioned simply using Disk Utility to format the drive and that's what I did:
1) connect the drive using the USB 3.0 cable included in the package;
2) open up Disk Utility app on the Mac (use Spotlight if you don't know where to find it or even what it is);
3) select the mounted partition of the drive (this is a jargon you don't need to understand, just select the nested TOSHIBAEXT under the external drive listing on the left);
4) Go to Erase, select the "Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)" format in the dropdown, then click "Erase". I ejected and reconnected the cable before I actually started using it just in case.

As the reviewer mentioned, this simply cleans out the drive meaning you lose whatever application/installer/instructions that came with it. I'm not planning to use this disk on a Windows machine at all and all my Mac machines are updated to the latest OS X versions so I'm not losing anything by doing this. But if you need to partition, or use it in a manner any more complicated than mine, I can't tell you this will work fine for you. But it's worked out brilliantly for me.
